Mediatech Foundation Presents: A Five Year Anniversary Gala
The Good Old Days in the 21st Century

IMAGINE
Stepping back to one of Flemington’s most glorious times — Big Band music floating down main street, vintage cars are parked along the street, and famous actors from the period, mingling and making grand entrances in vintage cars. You’re in the play, one of the cast members. Nearby, in the park, children play in a carnival. Top hats, of course, are optional.

STEPS TO IMPLEMENTATION
Phase 1: Low expectations model– get date & courthouse only (no street, no police) and have the Lindbergh flight. Sell tickets on a Sat night, have food catered, and have Marshell’s Dixieland band play. This keeps expectations low, and I can do it with three other people. Perhaps have band play on front porch for a set.
Phase 2: – High expectations, perhaps for year 2, if phase 1 works – only if with a lot of help. Close the street, and get the other orgs involved. This is only possible if we can get the following volunteers
a) Director ________________
b) Treasurer ________________
c) Sponsors ________________
d) Silent Auction ________________
e) Food ________________
f) Wine ________________
g) Public Relations________________
h) Security; Parking and Police ________________
i) Multimedia/Tech ________________
j) Playground fair ________________
k) FAME Judging ________________
l) Tickets ________________
m) Bathrooms ________________
n) Cleanup ________________

HOW TO DO IT. …MEDIATECH’S GOOD OLD DAYS MEET THE 21st CENTURY STREET CELEBRATION (name pending)

Step 1: Contact the police to see if we can close main street, avoid conflicts with other events like music on main street, and so on.

Step 2: Present the concept to the borough council and make sure they are on board. Contact the owners of the hotel to make sure we can use the front porch.

Step 3: Present the concept to the County. County Clerk Mary Melfi has offered to help with this and I’d like to take her up on her kind offer.

Sounds like a great idea to me! Count me in to help.

This sounds like a lot of fun. Obviously I’m interested in writing it up and spreading the word, but also let me know if I can help out any other way. I’ve got a bit of extra time to volunteer, and am good at heavy lifting.

Sounds like fun. Mich

Sounds interesting. During WW II there were what were called Block Dances on Main Street one summer in front of the Court House, the street closed. Music, records played, I think, not live. So it’s been done before, why not again? Anne Thomas

I think it is a wonderful idea. I believe we can get sponsors to help us out. I would love to help with this.

Hi Warren,
I assume “caste members” was either a typo or a play on words – hope no one feels “caste out!” :) Sounds like marvelous fun… but the Grinch in me says “where’s the money” as in how will this raise funds? Of course as a big celebration (and the Mediatech has many reasons to celebrate) it could be a lot of fun. I know I am off the board and out of the loop – although I occasionally drop by when I can. Do know that I have commitments on Wednesday nights but I may be able to help with this event, depending upon my summer schedule.
All the best,
Suzanne

Hi Warren,
Sorry to take so long in replying. I think this event could be a lot of fun. I’m not sure how you would make money on it, since it’s largely out in the open on Main St., and that’s largely music entertainment. There needs to be a ticket entry of some kind to participate in at least some of the venues. This will take a lot of work and preparation, but it’s a good idea and I’ll support you in some way that we agree on.
